About Colin
I began my piano technician career in 1987 at Perkins School
of Piano Tuning & Technology. The school was located in Elyria Ohio,
about an hour west of Cleveland.
Upon graduation, I returned to Alberta where I was offered a position with
a piano shop in St. Albert. While employed there I began building my own
client base in and around my community which was 100 km North West of St
Albert.

As I gained experience and clients, I gradually
shifted my focus onto developing my business. Being in a rural setting
did not allow for any specialization in my trade. Instead it gave
me opportunity to hone my skills in all facets of piano technology,
including tuning, piano rebuilding, and refinishing of the cabinets.
I also restored player pianos and reed organs to their original working
condition.

Some of the extensive training during my 25+ years of being a Piano
Technician include:
-
In 2006, while attending the Piano Technicians
Guild convention in Calgary, I challenged the Written, Tuning and
Technical portions of the exam and was Awarded the
RPT status (Registered Piano Technician) Designation.
-
Education has always been important to me. I attend many Technicians
Conferences where new skills, innovations and technology are taught
and thus improved my work over the years.
